There's an Alligator Under My Bed

Alligator Problems
Alligator problems dont happen often, but when it did it just happen to be under a little kid's bed, he had no name in the story. I think this is a cute story about responsibility.
Instead of depending on his parent the little kid takes care of it on his own by thinking of a plan. The plan was wise enough, I thought it was humerous how it was some what possible. The little kid maid a trail to the garage and closed the door. What was really cute was the note he left, being concerned about his dad, saying: " Dear Dad There is an alligator in the garage if you need help wake me up."
Personally I thought the whole concept of the plan was lesson learning for a kid, ages maybe 4-8, about problem soving. In and all that was a interesting book.

Theres an Alligator under my Bed
This book is about a boy who has an alligator under his bed and he is the only one who sees it. His parents don't believe him so he has to get it out for himself. So he goes down to the kitchen and gets some Alligator bait and makes a trail from his bed to the Garage and waits for the alligator to come out. He follows him down the stairs and to the garage. When the alligator gets to the garage he hurries up and shuts the door and goes back to bed. But then he realizes what if his dad can't get the car out of the garage because the alligator is in the way. So he leaves his dad a little note telling him that there is an alligator in the garage and if he needs help getting it out to call him.
I like this book because it is cute and funny. I used to love to read this book when I was a little kid in elementary school. I think a lot of kids did well at my school. I also liked this book because it is short and easy for little kids to read. I recommend this for little kids in elementary school.

Clever and empowering!
I read to children weekly (...) and this book is always a hit. It will capture the full attention of children of all ages and spark their imagination as well. It is fun to read and so clearly makes a hero of the little boy that it always invokes a cheer from the crowd! This book is a must for your child's library, but remember to remind them that there won't be any alligator's under their bed (they will ask)!

Beauty and the Beast
Published in Library Binding by SeaStar Books (August, 2000)
Authors: Marianna Mayer and Mercer Mayer
Average review score:

A work of art and a wonderful retelling
The Mayers present a stunning edition of Beauty and the Beast in this picture book. Marianna's story is simply and beautifully told, and Mercer's illustrations are stunning, full of detail, and create the perfect mood for this classic fairy tale. I highly recommend this book.

One of a Kind
A thousand words cannot begin to describe this book. Marianna Mayer took a story that all readers would be familiar with and without drastically changing it, gave us a breath of fresh air from our childhood. Her prose is outstanding but the true standout is the way she portrays emotion. In too many fairy tales, the characters are cool and aloof and the only human emotion portrayed is love. In this "Beauty and the Beast," the lucky reader can see the depth of Beauty and the Beast's despair and hope. As for the illustrations, they are breathtaking! Mercer Mayer's fairy tale work is incredible and full of detail. Beauty's rooms are rich and colorful. Beauty is gorgeous and the Beast is a tad scary. Unusual details include the Egyptian motifs scattered thourghout the castle, especially the sphinx off in a distant room. I highly recommend this book, no matter what your age. This book has an heirloom quality to it and the story is as beautiful and as timeless as the mountains outside Beauty's window.

This is a picture book from childhood¿s past.
The story is beautiful yet familiar. The drawings are heartachingly exquisite. Even the pictures in my mind's eye aren't as sumptuous as the illustrations in this book. Mercer Mayer outdid himself. Each time I read this book I discover something new in each painting. I am shocked that it did not receive a Caldicott. Mayer's fairytales have a distressing habit of going out of print- buy this one while you still can. I plan to pass my copy down through generations.

I Just Forgot
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (March, 2001)

Everyone forgets sometimes
This was a funny book. It reminded me a lot of myself and how I leave things on or don't put them away on accident. Another part that reminded me of how I am is how little critter said they didn't forget to close the refridgerator he was just not done eating. I always leave the t.v. on in a room and come back to it because I'm still watching it. This book I think was made to say that you never forget the important things and the things that really matter. It also lets kids know that everyone is forgetful.

Good Read
This book taught kids it's ok to forget somethings in life, but it also teaches them they cannot forget a lot of things, like how much they love their parents. but if you forget minor things like washing the dishes it's ok. I enjoy reading Mercer Mayer books, he can really connect with kids and get on their level, I think kids pick up on the morals. You may get into trouble if you forget things, but all kids do..

I just forgot
This book explains to children that it is ok to forget things sometimes most all kids do. But like in the book most kids never forget who or what is most important to them. This book reminds me of me and my brother because we always forget to do our chores but we never forget to tell our parents we love them and tell them goodnight.

The Pied Piper of Hamelin
Published in School & Library Binding by Atheneum (November, 1987)
Authors: Mercer Mayer and Robert Pied Piper of Hamelin Browning
Average review score:

Been there...done BEEN there!
My qualifications: I used to live 4km from Hameln ("Hamelin", Anglicized), Germany! It's near Hanover, if you're looking on a map. Regardless, I was happy to find this treasure. This is the most vividly illustrated version I've seen. The illustrations are splendid, & the book is nice & large. After seeing ANATOLY IVANOV's illustrations, other versions just don't do the story justice. The text is printed in what i would decribe as "default" calligraphic italic, adding to its charm, if not its "authenticity". I give it a big 5 RATS!

Share the Magic
This book would be a wonderful treasure for the pictures alone. Kate Greenaway, noted children's illustrator, has created a magical world of beautiful children, innocent faces, and romantic, nostalgic costumes. The colors on these pages are breathtaking, and the details (although Greenaway is always faulted for not drawing hands and feet well) are superb. This story is not for very young children, as it contains some troublesome themes. For the older child, perhaps 7+, the story might provoke some interesting post-read family discussions about honesty, trust, and the actual state of the children at the end of the tale. This is even a beautiful book to give to adults, as the messages about human nature can be appreciated on a deeper level.

Unique Children's Classic
The Pied Piper of Hamelin is a very different children's classic. Few other children's picture books tell a story in Victorian poetry. The book isn't just original; it is excellent. I have always enjoyed Robert Browning's poetry, and this is no exception. I was surprised at how easy it was to read this book compared to some of Browning's other verse, and it was pleasing to read, especially considering that this is focused toward children. I loved all of the poetic techniques used by Browning. His iambic tetrameter in couplets works very well for young readers, and I loved his use of anaphora and internal rhyme. The story is, of course, brilliant. It is the usual folk tale that every child has heard and needs to hear. It teaches its lesson, and Browning's version is even more entertaining than other versions. Also, the illustrations by Kate Greenway are fabulous. It is impossible to imagine this story in Browning's Victorian verse without Greenway's Victorian artistry. This is a true children's classic, it should definately last for years to come, and it makes and excellent buy for children or for libraries.

Everyone Knows What a Dragon Looks Like

Memories...
I saw this book in the store when I was seven and had to have it. I read it over and over as a kid. All of a sudden 23 years later I was walking down the street and I remembered the name of the book and the great pictures too. I can't wait to read it again.

Classic morality with an Asian twist!
This story of a child's acceptance and trust in the midst of adult rejection and scoffs is a classic morality tale. Mercer Mayer's wonderful illustrations combine authentic Chinese painting styles with familiar "Little Monster" type characters. If Little Monster was human and Chinese, he'd look like this!

Beautiful Book
My aunt gave me this book for Christmas the year it was published -- I was five.

I read and reread it throughout my childhood. I still read it once and a while and always think of it fondly. Because of the illustrations, I do know what a dragon looks like.

The Last Ride

Great Life Story!
This was a funny, touching true life story that I couldn't put down! Definitely a great book for anyone, whether you like rodeo or not.

This is an amazing book
I loved this book. It was one of the only books I have read with such a real life country setting. Not only was this guy a wonderful bullrider but was and is a good person at heart. Being raised around cattle and horses made for a great start for a bullrider. I think this book is very enlightening to the life of a bullrider and how hard they work to become what they are. It takes a very special person to climb on the back of a bull, and try to hang on for 8 seconds. They are faced with life and death everytime they nodd there head and come out of those chutes.

I couldn't put this book down. I would recommend this to anyone. Please take the time to read this book and you will soon appreciate the courage these guys have in taking on a bull.

EXCELLENT!!
The night my book arrived I burnt supper because I couldn't put it down. I found myself up at 2am reading it. I laughed, I cried and I laughed so hard that I cried reading the stories and remembering the people and places from this book. PeeWee, You did a wonderful job, I am soo very proud of you. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a look into the life and character of a cowboy!! Hurry up and write us another one!!

A good learner book
just me in the tub by Gina and Mercer Mayer is a good book that will teach kids things to and not to do in the bath tub, such as teachin them not to spill water and to pick up ther toys. In this book the character shows how to do things rite and keep it neat.

Fun Book

Join in the fun as Little Critter takes you on a tour of the "how to's" of bathtime. Me and My Little Brain
Published in Hardcover by Dial Books for Young Readers (March, 1995)
Authors: John Dennis Fitzgerald, Mercer Mayer, and Isabel Allende
Average review score:

The Great Brain himself does not appear.
J.D.'s brother Tom, the Great Brain himself, does not appear at all in this particular book. This one takes place after Tom has left for the Catholic Academy and is mostly about J.D. trying to follow in the Great Brain's footsteps, a task that J.D. doesn't fulfill until the last chapter, which makes this one a pretty tedious read. Tom's absence leaves a gaping hole. Try to imagine if J.K. Rowling were to write another book about Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and Harry Potter is not in it. That's how boring 'Me and My Little Brain' is without Tom. But readers of the Great Brain series still shouldn't skip this one. It explains the adoption of a youngest son named Frankie, who will be mentioned in the fourth book, 'The Great Brain at the Academy.'

Get the series, they are great, classic children's books
John Dennis Fitzgerald intended to chronicle his youth in Utah for adults, not children. His publisher thought otherwise and the result are these gems. I don't even call them children's lit gems because I find them just as enjoyable as an adult. Before I go on, you should know that Fitzgerald wrote one book about his youth that is for adults, called "Papa Married a Mormon". It is one of the most amazing books on the American west that I have ever read. Sadly, it is out of print, and you may, like me, have to pay an exorbitant sum to get a copy. Trust me, save up and do it. Now back to this book. Every single Great Brain book in the series is pure gold, and the entire set can be had cheaply, so I say buy them all at once. I "put my money where my mouth is" as Tom the Great Brain would say, and bought the lot.

Your Divorce Advisor : A Lawyer and a Psychologist GuideYou Through the Legal and Emotional Landscape of Divorce
Published in Paperback by Fireside (February, 2001)
Authors: Marsha Pruett and Diana Mercer
Average review score:

Pretty good as far as it goes
I found the combination of interweaving comments from an attorney and a psychologist to be very effective and was very encouraged as I began reading. As I progressed, however, I became somewhat disappointed for several different reasons and these reasons may not apply to other people (so take my rating with a grain of salt). First, a huge proportion of the book is dedicated to issues of childcare and child custody so for those of us without children, it's as if we bought a book that only has 60% of its content directed towards us. In this light, I thought that some of the financial issues were shortchanged a bit. Second, it seemed like a disproportionate amount of the material was directed specifically (or at least primarily) towards wives. Finally, I would have liked to have seen more attention paid to situations where there may be substantial issues of emotional problems and/or mental illness. Those exceptions aside, though, I thought this was a very well-done book.

One Book Does It All
I bought this book after reading 5 or 6 other books, and none of those other books covered divorce from start to finish as well as this one did. From the finances to figuring out whether you're emotionally ready to deal with the issues, I found it really helpful. Definitely worth the price. I even lent it to my lawyer.

Best Divorce Book on Market
This is absolutely, positively the best divorce book on the market, and I've read them all! I'm a divorce lawyer from Lexington, KY and thought I'd write a book on divorce that would help clients with both the emotional and the legal process....and then I found Your Divorce Advisor. There's no more thorough treatment of the subject anywhere else. I actually bought a case of these books to give to clients. I can't recommend it more highly.
